Camping is
getting MORE popular by the year… take a look around, there are more
campers and RV’s on the road now than just a few years ago. The days of
heading out in the summer or fall for a week trip somewhere without
reservations is almost gone, it is strongly suggested nowadays during
these peak seasons to plan ahead and book a campsite. The State Parks
seem to book up fast especially in the Fall. Some prime locations are
Georgia state parks, so book early through the parks online website, or
by phone.
When
planning to visit a park whether state, national or privately owned make
sure they can accommodate your camper. If you have anything longer then
30 ft. be sure to ask if they have sites that size (my camper has hung
over the side of a mountain site that was too small a time, and it’s no
fun!) Slide outs are also popular camper features now, so be sure to ask
the campground you plan on visiting if they can accommodate one or two
slide outs (this can be tricky at certain parks, we have had to bypass
several sites due to trees interfering with our slide out)
Make
sure the campground it not too small for your camper overall. On a visit
to a private Missouri campground we discovered this nightmare too late.

Always
make sure to stop at a gas station that is camper/rv friendly. On the
major interstates the exit signs are now supposedly reading if a station
is camper friendly (I have yet to see any signs saying this) your best
choice is to always keep your gas tank at above a half a tank, in case
of long road work times, long stenches without gas stations, etc. When
preparing to stop at a station, look at the exit sign to see if more
than one station is listed, if only one or two are listed then most in
likely they are small stations and you will have a hard time entering
them (it’s not impossible, but you may encounter difficulties entering
and exiting the station) also try to avoid exits that take you miles out
of your way to find a station.
